Do I need to buy chicken grit before their field trip outside?

I read somewhere that chicks need grit if they might be pecking on anything but their crumbles...
So.. if I take them outside on the grass for a field trip does that mean I have to put grit out there too?
My feed store had a tiny bag for like 8 bucks. Seemed kinda pricey.
How much grit to they need and how often?

If they're going to be outside on the ground they'll probably find their own.

I agree with A.T. but if you want to give grit just give them some yard dirt or some sand from a construction site. we just go down to the creek and shovel up a little. we give it to everyone. our 6 week olds and the new little ones 1 week old. even the little ones will scratch and peck around in the sand. they all love it and will run and jump in when they get new.

Oh ok. I didn't know that's what grit was.. they are actually outside right now on my side yard which is mostly dirt & sand.
