Do I need to clean their feet regularly?

Hi!

New Chicken Mom here,

I have two red hens with regular chicken feet- They partial free range daily and have a coop tractor I move around daily- but their little feet are dark and dirty on the bottom... Should I be giving them regular footie baths?

I am still learning regular maintenance skills lol

Check for bumble foot every once in a while but I wouldn't bother with the chicken pedicure

I can safely say I have never cleaned a chicken’s feet. Just look them over occasionally but no need to send them to the chicken salon

I do if I notice poop on their feet but I handle mine a lot so it's largely out of self preservation. The feather footed ones get their feet dipped maybe ever two weeks and I make sure their foot feathers aren't going to break from dried dirt/poop.

I inadvertently wash our chickens’ feet, but it’s because I added a tub of water for them to cool off in.

They also love to drink from it, I suppose because the water develops a special flavor from all the crud that washes off

I didn't realize this could happen! Mine do get a little crispy at the edges from poo staining.
