Do I need to quarantine chickens from my friend?

Basically, it’s a form of chicken pox but for poultry. Like humans it’s painful so we had to apply one cream for skin and ears and a more gentler one for the eyes, both creams twice a day. They were mild painkillers to help reduce the pain induced stress to the bird. Rosie was soon happy for us to hold her and apply the cream as it made her feel better!

But there are two different forms of it.
Dry pox is pretty benign, usually only shows up on combs and wattles, and passes fairly quickly with no seriousness unless a secondary infection occurs.
Wet pox is much more serious, occurs inside the mouth.

Good point Aart.
It was definitely dry pox. We did check in her mouth as a precaution. In addition to her comb unfortunately the little hen also had it on both eyelids and didn’t want to open her eyes. The cream gently numbed the pain and after approx 10 minutes she would start to keep her eyes open and start to eat.
