I have a white silkie that has been sitting for about two weeks. She is in a large coop with a very sweet, submissive bantam RIR. Do I need to move the RIR into the coop with the big chickens before the eggs hatch? The big girls bully the silkie mercilessly, which is why they are separated, but seem willing to accept the little RIR. I have heard that adult chickens might kill the chicks, but this individual is so sweet, it is hared to believe. On the other hand, I would hate to find out the hard way that I was wrong.

Believe me, when mama's babies come out, mama don't take no nonsense. She'd be on that RIR like white on rice if it pestered her babies...bff be derned.

I would make sure it's enough space for them to walk around with out getting in each other's way. The little ones could get accidentally trampled on.
