Do I need to supplement my seed mix with pellets?

I have heard several people do this mixing of chicken layer pellets in with the pigeon grains. You do it during breeding/molting time--I thought that was what the crushed oyster shell is for? Do you not use that? If I use that, do I need the layer pellets, or is the crushed oyster a replacement for incorporating layer pellets?
You can do whatever you like... so long as the birds get some calcium from something. The more variety the better. You can feed the oyster shell and the layer pellets as well as their seed mix.

I can not always get the oyster shell. I even sometimes use crushed up egg shells (after I have fried egg for my breakfast). They eat them too.

Don't worry so much!!!

You don't need to feed the chicken pellets at all if you don't want to.. your birds will not suffer. A grain mix, a calcium thing, and fresh water... plus clean the coop. That's the basic thing.

People just like to give their birds variety and, as they say, variety is the spice of life lol.
