I am planing on getting chickens but a duck would be nice. I don't mind two ducks but if they are with chickens is it really necessary?

I ask because i have heard both sides

I would get a pair, just so it has a friend

(Also if you just get ONE male duck, he will rape the female hens)

I also suggest the muscovy breed

my friend and I got 2 free ducks each from my cousins, hers hang around with her chickens and mine hang around with mine.
Hers even slept in the chicken coop with them, mine have a dog house.
Her german shepherd killed one of her ducks, the other one was devastated. She had to go get another duck.Mine hang around with the chickens but I don't think they like them , they bully them all day.

I would definitely get at least 2 ducks. They are very social creatures and need companionship. There's no guarantee that ducks and chickens will get along, mine don't. If they are raised together there is a better chance they'll get along. That being said, I would still get at least 2 ducks. There is nothing better than listening to 2 ducks 'talk' to each other.

. i have some and one chicken which they leave alone.

Well, i can only get two at max. Will they be ok or should or just get chickens?

I have 2 females and I love them they are a different experience from the chickens and I wouldn't give up either. I love to hear them talk to each other too. And they yell at the roosters all the time its so funny.
