Do I really need to wait until Spring?

Originally, I was planning on building my coop and then ordering chicks in February. However, I live in an area where the average low temperature in winter is 35 degrees, which is nothing compared to the North East (or Chicago, where I moved from). Do you think that the chickens would be fine if I ordered them soon? They would go outside before the temp even got down that low, then they'd have a couple of months in the 30s-40s before it'd start warming back up.

Never to late to get chicks

I'm in Michigan, my polish are 12 days old

I have red heat lamps on them now and when it get colder like 40 and below I'll have them on the rest of the flock especially at night. Remember people raised chickens way before electricity.

I am in Ok and I just ordered 25 chicks. I always get my chicks in the fall. They just need to be warm untill they feather out real good.

Then I turn off heat lamp. No heat for a night or 2 and then outside. I love getting my fall chicks. Then you get eggs in the spring.

If you have heat lamps you will be fine. I'm still ordering a few chicks and still hatching......The main thing is the provision of heat. And hey it's not too late to incubate either. So, if you need eggs, feel free to see me or any one else selling eggs (smile). Eggs hatched now will mean spring eggs... So hatch along or have some one do it for you!!!!
