My RIR roo has VERY long spurs and they make it hard for him to walk. Do I trim them? And if yes, how?
thanx

a big YES , you do need to trim or shell your roosters spurs .
You can order the "spur saw" from Randall Burkey.com . I would recomend a spur holder that they also sell .

#1- You need to saw a partial cut about 1/4" above initial cut and then make the cut = it will not bleed doing it this way .
If you do saw them off and it does bleed -you can rub a peice of flat brick or small peice of broken concrete block - rub it flatly accross the cut real fast several times and it will stop the bleeding (guranteed) lol .

# 2- you can use a pair of pliers to gently rotate pliers *around the spur while holding pliers firmly *around the spur . .... the spur's outter shell will come off , usually there is no blood or just a small amount . You can apply triple antibiotic to it . This does not remove the point of the spur but does make spur very small . It will scab over but will be OK in a few weeks .

I know i repeated somethings & words but trying to make it simple and understandable .
Best of Luck ,
