I’m just wondering if males mature faster than females? I have one male khaki Campbell, 5 female khaki Campbells, and 2 female Pekin currently in my run. My male duck Kenny has been mounting them for around 2-3 weeks now. I assumed when that started happening I would see eggs but I haven’t gotten any yet. They are all around 17 weeks old. We got them March 12th estimated to be about a day old.

Yes, just like pretty much every species, the males will be ready for breeding a good while before the females are

The mounting is more like practice than anything. You’ll see hens flirt and flat-back too, even if they’re too young for eggs.

My most recent ducks all started flirting & mating at 3 months, but I didn’t get any eggs until 4.5 months. Most still aren’t laying now at 5 / 6 months.

Great info! Thank you so much!
