My 1 year old goose is building a nest. From all the other signs I have seen I thought it was a male goose. But for the last few weeks it has been gathering sticks into a big pile. Does this mean my goose is female?

I have seen a male goose build a nest before. Well more like try. He would gather only a few twigs in a circle then fill it in with more twigs. Then he would just stop. On tic tock someone record there male goose building a nest.

My gander displays nest building as a courting behavior. He certainly doesn't build an entire nest like the goose does, but he'll sometimes steal my keys out of my pocket, cover them carefully in straw and twigs, and then scrape back with his feet and lie down on them as if to brood.

He also removes all sticks and stalks from my perennials and throws them on the lawn for the goose to find. Whenever one of his favorite people is in sight, he'll run to them and strut and move around any nearby nesting material, as if to say "look how awesome a dad I'd be".
