I discovered my chickens had northern fowl mites on Thursday, when I reached into the nesting box and discovered lots of mites on my hand when I pulled it out. I cleaned out the coop and covered everything with permethrin spray and dust, and dusted the chickens, yesterday. The chickens seem fine now, but I am now SO itchy and have red bumps all over me!! They started to appear on Thursday, when I first found the mites...do northern fowl mites bother humans? Or is it just a coincidence? They itch like crazy, but I'm pretty sure it's not poison ivy or nettle.
