Hi

So far I have had chickens, turkeys, and regular domestic ducks like Swedish and Buffs and so far all of the eggs I've ever seen have normal bright yellow yolks. But this winter I have added to young moscovie hens to the flock I've started gettin a few duck eggs this week and the ones that I've cracked so far had more of a brownish yellow color in the yolks and I know they're fresh and they dont stick or anything but they just have a darker color that makes them look kinda gross so I was wondering if these eggs must be from the scovies and if this was normal. I know free range is supposed to make them darker but all of my ducks have always free ranged and eggs from the Swedish and Buffs have always been the normal color. So does anyone know if this is a moscovy thing and they normally have darker yolks or doesn anyone know of another reason why duck eggs would be darker. I'm not sure that the scovies are the ones that laid them, I just figured they did since they were different than what the other ducks normally lay. And I noticed that one of them had a fertility bullseye and I dont have a Scovie drake yet, just a Silver Swedish drake and I've never seen him try to breed the scovies so that makes me wonder if it is from the scovies but I dont know. Any ideas ?

Do you have a picture? I would not use the description of a brownish yellow for my muscovy eggs yolks

No I didnt get a picture, and my the camera on my phone probably wouldnt take a good enough pic to see the color anyway. But we dont usually eat them anyway, I just cracked a few that I found to feed to some chicks but I usually just leave the eggs in the nest and the ducks set them when they get enough in there, the Buffs are constantly broody and I'm hoping the scovies will be too, but I was just curious if that was normal.

Do you have a picture of what yours look like ?

Not at this time. We are under contract to deliver duck eggs to a retail outlet, and every sound egg goes to meeting that commitment.

I have Muscovy ducks and their eggs are bright yellow - I have never seen any tinged with brown - what colour are your ducks? Mine are all white and there may be a variation in colour with different coloured birds.... maybe somebody here has more knowledge!

My two Scovies are black but I've had BBS Swedish and Buffs and they always have bright yolks. So I cant imagine plumage color having anything to do with it.
