I have a bantam silver laced wyandotte who is hatching some eggs as I write. I have been observing closely. The first egg pipped yesterday but no chicks out yet. When I was watching (discreetly) just now she moved and I could see a pipped egg and could see the chick moving, mother then had a little peck around the hole, is that normal? I would have thought so BUT just worried as she might damage the chick??? The egg she is helping is a bantam black orpington and the shell does look a bit thick.
