Do my chickens know they did something wrong?

This morning one of my chicks pecked me in the eye and I immediately put them all back in their mini coop to go check my eye. It did no damage but, was a little bloodshot and irritated. ever since that happened my chicks have been very quiet and just sitting under their heating plate. They have went to get a drink of water but went right back to sitting under their heating plate. When it happened, I was a little upset and yelled a bit and said ok guys your all going to be adopted. I cant have you pecking me in my eyeball so your all going to live somewhere else.

Do they know they did something wrong? lol

I feel better though and my eye does not hurt anymore but, the chicks are very quiet and not moving about as they normally would and they are all just chattering away at one another. I just wonder what they are saying to each other? lol

No. If anything, they were startled from your reaction. Got my eye pecked by an ISA brown pullet once. Not fun...

I have chicks in the house too and every time there's a loud noise, like the dog barks or I'm yelling at the dog, they go huddle up in the corner. They forget fast.
