DO NOT SLEEP WITH DUCKLINGS

I'm so sorry you lost your baby ducky. But thank you for posting about it. The best part of BYC is the knowledge... Your story my very well save the life of another little duckling or chick.

How are you doing today? Just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you and hoping you're able to find peace <3

I can't stop crying, the guilt and grief is so overwhelming

My ducklings tried eating shavings, so we stuck with old towels.  Storey's Guide says don't let them get at anything long and stringy - they could get impacted.

X2, nothing but towels for me. Seen way too many ducklings and chicks at the feed store die from eating shavings. $3 towels from Walmart are what I use for all my ducklings, chicken chicks and peachicks.

Quote: Please be gentle to yourself. You can't go back and change things, and you can't know for sure whether you did anything or something else happened to the little duckling. All you can do moving forward is do things differently. Allow yourself to grieve the loss of your precious little duckling, but don't allow you to continue to beat yourself up over it. Anything could happen at any time to our babies, and nothing can change it once it does, so all you can do is learn and grow.

Hey, you were trying. I didn't even get to take her anywhere. It wasn't business hours, but I really don't think they could have done anything for her anyways. She clearly had something neurologically wrong with her.

I know...her brother died a few months later, and I learned long after the fact that the breeder was an unscrupulous man who had severely inbred birds.

But I still wonder "what if". It's impossible not to, you know? I know Lovely feels the same. We all do! I guess it sounds strange, but in an odd way it's sort of the silver lining. Not only do we learn, but we have an entire loving community here who understands exactly what we've all been through. It's a small comfort, but a comfort nonetheless.

I still lay with Daisy and Red, but will never allow myself to fall asleep when I do cuddle with them. Now, I'm constantly alert and checking on them. they were close with marbles and i could tell they knew he wasn't there. thank you for the support.

Did you change the bedding to something else? None of us want to see anything happen to the other two, and I know you don't want to go through that again either.
