Do older hens still sit in the nest even though no egg happens?

I have a hen that I believe to be older, seen her in the nesting box, but no egg. She hasn't laid an egg for a while (I think) but I will see her in the box. So do they still go throught the motions, even though nothing is produced? She is not sick, been dewormed a little less than 2 months ago, eats and looks great. I rescued these chickens and have no idea how old any of them are and don't mind freeloaders.

Yep It could be routine. Maybe it is comfortable, who knows. I have an orpington that is so old she has a bald head, She still goes in the box even though she only lays one a week or so. as long as she is healthy let her do it.
