Do owls eat road kill?

I was on the road tonight around 10:30 and in the middle of the road I noticed there was something that I thought was a raccoon or possum. As I came up on it my lights hit it right in the face. It was a round face with the white all the way around. It did not move but did not seem to have the body of an owl. It was the size of a small dog and was eating road kill.

Yikes that was one very scary looking animal.

I hope it doesn't decide to come down the road a few miles for a chicken dinner.

I have seen owls eat roadkill. My brother is a trucker and he almost hit an owl that was eating a dead deer on the shoulder of the highway.

It had a really white face with the feathers all around in a circle like a sunflowers petals go outward. The face was flat and the body of it was bent over and it looked like the body of a dog. CrEePy

From the images I googled it did not look like a WV barn owl.

many times people see this and think an owl is eating road kill.in reality,they are eating a fresh kill they have just caught either on or near the road.

Could be barred owl....those things are everywhere and I love them!

Yes they will, and so do other birds of prey.
