Do pigeons with eggs need a heat lamp in the winter?

Hey there! I’ve got a pair of homers that recently had an egg (hopefully two, but one is fine!) and it’s getting cold around here- it’s not going to be less than 0 in peak winter, but it should be going below freezing in the coming weeks. Should I buy a heat lamp for my birds to help them keep their egg warm? Thanks!

This time of year I always take the first egg, bring it inside and replace with a fake egg. Once the second egg is laid (there will be two), I replace the first egg. Danger time is when the pair starts preparing for a second nest - homers generally are not as quick at this as my rollers were. Sometimes the cock will brood the squabs while the hen sets the new nest and sometimes not. If squabs are fully feathered they will do fine on their own.

I would replace eggs with plastics, and refrain from having squabs during cold winter times. (that is what I did) Resume in the spring. Cold, and Raising squabs just does not =good survival rate. You choose what you think is best for you.
If you have a loft similar to this fancier, then winter hatching is less of an issue.

Fanciers like above loft keepers, like to hatch out their their racers as early as they can in calendar year. When they race their birds, they have an advantage/edge over some of their competition. Of course many serious competitors are doing same as this person.
