Do Pullets and Cockerals Chest Bump EACH OTHER to Establish Pecking Order?

Hi CluckCluckLuke, I don't think it's cocci and here's why but see what you think. MeMe's poo is fine, really good, actually. No runny-ness, no blood, just good looking chicken poo. She eats a lot, drinks enough. I just looked in on them and there she was at the feeder munching away. I also feed them chicken, eggs, lettuce, meal worms, oats, she eats it all and quite a bit of it. I think she's not digesting her food perhaps because she sleeps alot and when she's awake, peeps most of the time. I added probiotics to the water but no effect. The brooder is warm (85+ F) which is too hot for the other chicks, actually.

So, I don't think it's cocci, based on the research because she's been like this for well over a week and hasn't gotten any better or worse. Maybe she was not completely developed when she hatched. I wish I could figure it out. I even tried turning off the light (when it was warm enough) to see if it was light sensitivity. I'm just at a loss. Maybe her digestive system is just not fully developed. Wish I knew... sigh.

What do you think? Does this give you (or anyone else) any ideas?

Hmm.. yes defiantly not cocci, basically based on how long she has lived and nothing has changed. But also that her poop is fine and eating and drinking.
She just isn't active. Maybe she has pasty but? or some sort of as you said digestive problem.
But maybe we are all just worrying and she is just not developed properly. I would keep her on the vitamins or ACV, you never know it might just be keeping her as she is. I sometime use something for my flock, think it is doing nothing anything, stop using it and then Bam my problem is back.

You are doing everything right from the sound of it. I know it is frustrating knowing you can't do anything, trust me I just got told that from my vet today, it sucks.
Just keep her happy, fed and clean bedding and water and Hopefully she will just grow out of it.
Good Luck.

Yes, the reference to 8 weeks was that most cockerels have comb changes by then while pullets wait several more weeks. Single combs grow dramatically.

Hi CluckCluckLuke, Well, little MeMe couldn't stand up this morning, just too weak, poor thing. I decided it was time and there was nothing more I could do. Nature didn't intend her to survive I suppose. She's out with my daffodils, where her tiny body will nurture the soil. "Food for worms, Lads, food for worms" (Dead Poets Society.) It's how we all end up. Like my father who died this year of cancer said, "Dying is just as much a part of life as living." But I'm sad Very sad today.

Will do, thanks! I'll let you all know which turned out to be hens and roos, so you can see which of the many methods of sexing per breed applied.
