Do pullets ever crow?

Poor Minnie. She was named for "Minnie the Moocher", so we've spent a few days figuring out how to get rid of her/him. Meanwhile writing humorous new lyrics
"..Minnie the Moocher, she was a low-down cock-a-doodler...".

Yesterday, tragedy took a hand. Minnie was killed by a Cooper's Hawk in our back yard. The two pullets are ok, so we like to believe that that Minnie gave his life defending his flock.

A sobering lesson for ignorant new chicken owners.

"Minnie had a heart as big as a whale".

Yes, almost unreasonably fortunate in that regard. But not the humane removal I would have wanted! Also, my daughter was in the lead heading toward the pen & saw the hawk pulling at the carcass. I certainly wanted her to understand where food comes from, reality, etc. But this was a pretty harsh image! My fault for not making the cover of the pen more secure!

I'll post more in the 'predators' section when I have a few more spare minutes.

Thanks for the community!
