Do pullets ever crow?

Hi, am am a new backyard chicken owner. I have 3 chicks that are about seven weeks old. One is a Red Ameraucana (or EE). Yesterday, and today (s)he did a really impressive cock-a-doodle-do when I took her out of the pen. She even stretched up and looked just like a cartoon rooster.


She (or he??) is the one in the foreground. Sadly, she is also the largest, which I guess might indicate a cockerel. Do pullets ever crow? Could she still turn out to be a girl?

She's probably a he. Hens can crow after they reach maturity and if there is no male around. They can take the roo role and start to crow. However, at 8 weeks old, being what looks like an EE, sounds like you got a roo.

Our 6 week old Silver Lakenvelder, Martha, crowed once.

Our Brown Leghorn cockerel and then our Golden Campine cockerel started crowing on the roost one day.

Martha flew up and joined them. I was in the hen house at the time and witnessed it. I turned to Martha and said (in my most stern voice) "and THAT will be enough from you, young lady!"

And she never did it again.

Martha was also the first in our flock to start laying..

Good luck on the thoughts but my opinion of it being a rooster has nothing to do with the crowing at all. You can tell by the feathering and comb size/color.

I agree with Richard, the appearance of the bird says cockerel.

Yes there has been cases of hens crowing...I had one LOL! In this case, nope, definately roo!
