My Pullets are 17 weeks old. No eggs yet. I have 8 different breeds. The run and brooder are in the shade. They get sunlight, but not direct sun. Do they require the direct sun in order to lay at their full potential?

All our birds love to sun bath, in direct sunlight, for a hour a day, on average. They love it. Not all day long by any means, but a time spent in direct sunlight? They love it. I got a feeling that they do absorb the sun and make Vitamin D like the rest of the animal world, just as we humans do.

17 weeks is way early for most varieties.

Thank you so very much for your feedback. We let them roam the yard, for a couple of hours, each day. They get some sunlight that way. I feel much better. Thanks again.
