I've been thinking about raising bowhite quail to release into the wild. would they adapt well? there is plenty of woods around me federal and state lands. don't want to try if not a good idea.

No, that's not a good idea. An animal that is used to humans and used to be given its food and water instead of having to look for it can't be released into the wild. they'd die. not to mention they'd be easy prey for "wild" animals.

The only time Domesticated Bobwhites are released are for controlled hunts,
except when trained wildlife rehabbers release some, and the released Bobwhites are not from domesticated stock.

Why would you want to do this anyway?

I have some land that I wish had more native species of bird inhabiting it but you cannot force nature,.. the birds left for a reason.

Figured it probably wasn't a good idea, just checking. remember seeing a lot more quail and pheasant around when I was younger. but I guess nature does its thing.

yes normally only hunters release the birds for hunting purposes, but people with a lot of land and appropriate permits and hiding places for the bobwhite quail can release them with the intention of trying to repopulate, but I don't know of any personaly that do this. Most just release them to shoot them.
