Do quail fly and will they do well in an outdoor aviary that is built on the ground

My coturnix have an aviary, they don’t use the vertical space very much at all, but I like it as I can walk in and care for them. Some of them are somewhat tame and will peck at my shoes or take treats from my hand. Others go take shelter when I enter.
What type of quail were you thinking?

If you hatch them yourself, you have a better chance to tame them. However, you will also need to deal with whatever ratio of male to female you get. Generally speaking, you'll have extra males that will need to be processed or sold.

If you know the number of quail you want, I'd go with birds that are old enough to be sexed (3 weeks in the case of coturnix). The other thing about an aviary is that, even if you tame them, they're probably going to prefer to bop around on their own and stay out of reach.

Yes with male to female ratio im curious about that. Are most of the eggs laid by default male, or do the male chics tend to have a better mortality rate to adulthood than the females. And is infertility common among females?
