Do quail need layer crumble?

a lot of people keep them on game bird starter forever, food choice has a ton of answers and all dependent on the posters individual experience

I have heard of people supplementing their quail with a layer feed. It should be fed to quail hens to promote their egg laying abilities. If you're going to purchase a chicken layer feed then I would grind it down into crumbles so it is edible to your quail. You can try supplementing their diet with this if you think it's the best choice for your quail.

If you read the tags on the feed bags you guys will have a little better understanding of the nutritional values. The only difference in layer crumble and gamebird feed is the crude protein and infused calcium. Quail roosters can barely process calcium, layer crumble is bad for them. There is a good reason that they call most of crumbled feeds we use "complete nutrition" for the birds they're specified for, a lot of research and development goes into making these feeds that way.

The only thing your quail need is game bird feed and water.
