Do quail need shots?

I am selling some baby jumbos that will be about 5 weeks old when they go to their new home. The buyer asked me if they have had their shots? He wasn't sure they needed any, but asked just to be sure.

I have not heard of quail getting shots of any kind? So do they or don't they?

Also, do they need to be wormed if they are not on the ground?

I don't give mine any shots or worming. Particularly because I eat them, I basically treat them like broiler chickens, no shots, no meds.

In my experience quail are very hardy and tough. I have never heard of giving them shots or medication/vaccines of any kind.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Birds kept on wire typically are not prone to worms, but keep in mind that if there is a wire top, droppings form wild birds could carry something. I keep quail in aviaries that have ground access, therefore they are wormed and given Sulmet only as a precaution. There are no actual injections ever given. However, it is not an uncommon practice for valuable birds (Red-crowned Cranes we used to work with were vaccinated yearly for WN) to get vaccines for West Nile, but one vaccine itself is worth 10x the cost of one bobwhite.
