Do quails need grit & calcium?

They don't need grit if all you feed them is commercial feed. If you give them treats that need to be "chewed" then they need grit. Calcium above the amount in a starter or grower feed is only necessary for laying hens. If you can't find a layer ration, you can supplement with oyster shell, which is available in feed stores and at Tractor Supply. It is best to provide the oyster shell in a separate feeder so the hens can eat what they need, rather than mixing it in the feed. This is especially true if you have roos, who don't need the extra calcium, eating out of the same feeder.
