Do Quails Need Sandbath Boxes?

My coturnix love their sand boxes... They kick it out very fast but they are digging and (I suspect) bathing... I use fine dirt. In a half size paint roller pan liner (plastic)

I put in a bowl of DE once a week and they roll around it like crazy

Hi! How much DE for how many birds?

My partner and I recently had a DE scare and I want to keep him from any more guesswork accidents.

I use play sand. They don't need sand but it does make them very happy. Their quail eyes just lighten up when they see me bringing a pan of nice sand! I use a cat litter scoop to remove droppings and refill some sand as needed. Every so often I replace the entire tray with all brand new sand.
