I have 4 baby quails, 3 of them are much younger than the 4th and don’t seem to have any problems. My 4th quail is what we suspect is a male and just turned 6 weeks old. He is very happy and healthy. Just recently I noticed how long his nails are and I’m not sure if they need to clipped or filled or he needs something to scratch on. I’ve also noticed he bites the longest of his nails.. does that mean it’s too long? thank you! :)

Sometimes they may need their nails clipped. I've had the odd one that seems to have that problem despite being on the ground. Dog nail clippers are good to use. If the nails are dark it's harder to see the quick which is where there are blood vessels, so be careful not to take too much off.

If you have a quail or other small animal that has nails that need trimming, you can put a brick or patio block under the water dispenser or food, in a manner they need to stand on it to get something they need, the rough surface will keep them a good length
