Just wondering if roos go "off duty" to a degree in shorter days... I don't seem to see as much treading. Wondering if they are just calming down from being hormonal teens, or if shorter days triggers a slow down in hormones and lowers breeding activity. If so, is there less fertility with winter eggs?

they go as long as the hens will let them, about winter though i have noticed them to slow down.. guessing if hens lay in the winter though the roosters would be the same as summer though

Teenage roos do 'calm down' as they mature.. and roos do seem to lose a bit of interest during molting. Otherwise as long as the hens have bright red faces/combs they usually are "interested".

A few roosters even change their behavior towards particular hens on whether they are breeding or not.. courting and being 'gentlemen' with breeding hens but downright hostile or 'cold' towards hens that are not.
