Hello, everyone. :) One of my family members is getting a few ducks soon, and he heard that a rooster would go after female ducks unless a male duck was there to protect them; we were planning on getting 4 females, but now he might get 5 females and 1 male due to hearing that. Is it true that the rooster(s, in our case) will go after and attack female ducks?

Others may disagree with me--but a rooster will try to mate anything that is female and yes having a drake around will help--but I don't think its physiologically possible for the roo to succeed. :caf

lol I'm sure that's true! I figured as much, but just wanted to make sure the ducks wouldn't be bullied or anything. Thank you! And I agree, I don't think it is; I remember seeing a documentary that said the female ducks reproductive system is a lot like a corkscrew, so it most likely is impossible for the rooster to even attempt, let alone actually fertilize a female duck. A duck/chicken would look very interesting.

Funniest sight I've seen so far is my silver spangled hamburg at about 8" tall, trying to mate my RP turkey who was in heat. Didn't work out well for either...:lau

I'm sure that was extremely hilarious to see! :yuckyuck:lol: They just don't seem to understand that they aren't the same. :p Hoping my roo's don't instantly see the ducks and think they'll be able to mate!
