Do roosters keep hens in line?

Joe could care less. Blackie and Boggart hang around him but I've never seen him try to defend/protect and of the chickens. He does his own thing. Now Sasquatch, the black silkie we had was protective of the chickens. Ana tried to get one of the "girls" from the coop. The pullet started raising a ruckus and Sasquatch came running! He jumped at Ana and made it very obvious that he didn't want her messing with his chickens

My rooster keeps the hens in line. I have a 2 foot fenced area just so my dogs can't get to the chickens. One time one of the hens decided to get out and he sure gave her an ear full when we put her back in. None of the other chickens have done it since. He is definitely master of his domain.

My 1 year old EE Rooster is a pussycat & gets chased about by a tiny Cochin bantam hen, all the other hens, the cat, the dogs, me, DH..... So, go figure

some roosters just ain't cut out for the job.

A rooster may help keep your hens underwraps.

No one here would promise you anything when it comes down to animals & their behavior.

Unfortunately, my bird is an utter coward who would sooner lie all over the indoor furniture than be outside with the girls. Also he doesn't really protect them.... just protects his own backside. He's a sweet boy, but..... he's totally useless as a rooster.

I think roos can get agressive with hens if the hens get really violent when fighting.Just last week one of my hens killed the other for sitting on her egg.

The dead one thought they were hers,So my rooster plucked off most of the murderers feathers.
