Do sheep make good pets?

Well I have 4 pygmy goats and I saw someone with a pet sheep I was wondering do they make good pets? could it stay in with goats? I don't know what to ask lol just give me info

No, you will feel bad when it comes time to eat it. It really upsets the kids. Don't make pets of animals that you will have to eat. Keep them as livestock.

I've had sheep before, and one big ewe who was really just a pet. A big blue Suffolk ewe named Jezabel. She palled around with the horses and was so nosy and sweet. Eventually she was the only sheep, though, and I felt bad for her and found her a new home.

But yes, the RIGHT sheep can make awesome pets. I recommend getting a well-socialized adult or a lamb you can work with often. Look into the different breeds-do you want smaller or larger, hair or woolled, horned or polled?

They are similar to goats. You could house goats and sheep together, but don't forget to sheer the sheep! The two will forage differently and won't compete for food. I've only been around market lambs, and they were crazy... but they were also in a very stressful situation, so I can't base it off of that.

Yeah, I have had some pet sheep that I bottle fed. they are quite dumb, but always come when called! You have to be careful about keeping them in with goats though, I don't know what kind of salt block you have for your goats, but its not very good for sheep to have alot of copper, its toxic to them. I'm not sure if goats need copper or not?

Hello! We have 6 goats, (2 pygmy).

We thought about having sheep as pets. Just a few.
BUT looking into it, with friends who raise sheep. They can't be alone. (no problem- you have goats) However they can JUMP!(better than goats? shocking to us!) Just imagine trying to catch 'em?! Our goats....can easily clear a 5 ft fence... so the sheep, well, we decided to hold off.

But not to say we won't adopt one....two...maybe 3.....as PETS.

Goats need minerals with copper and copper is toxic to sheep.That's the biggest drawback.
I have read that you can place the goat minerals higher up where only the goats can reach them,but I'm too paranoid to try that.
Sheep will graze on shorter grass and can pick up more parasites that way when in a pasture with goats.You would just have to stay on top of worming.
It can be done and sheep are wonderful,but I'm finding very different from the goats.

I've got both goats and sheep and I bottle-fed both of them and raised them in the house for their first couple of months. I thought the sheep wouldn't get along with the goats, but I put my one year old ewe, my 2 month old ram, and my one year old twin Boer girl and boy in the same pen and they became closer than the rest of my goats. My one year old Barbados sheep is my pal and she is very tame and very sweet; the little boy will come and lie down right next to me wherever I sit outside. Yes, sheep are dumb compared to goats or anything else normally, but I'd have to say that my Mary is pretty smart, mostly because I talked to her a lot as she was growing up.
