Hi all!
I am looking for a new breed of chicken to have in our 'gang'

I have looked at the breed Speckledy and wondered if they are a good hen. I have heard it is an amazing layer but I also want a hen that goes broody!
So wondering if Speckledy go broody??
Or does anyone know any breeds that are broody and great layers?!?

Usually your best layer isn't going to be your best broody since she will be sitting instead of laying. With that being said, since you are looking for egg laying chickens with a few broodies on the side I would suggest Plymouth Rock Chickens (all sorts of varieties) Buff Orpingtons, New Hampshire Reds, and Black Australorps. Do a little research on those breeds. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

From what I understand, they are a U.K. type black sexlink, using cuckoo Marans instead of the Barred Rock typical of U.S. black sexlinks. If bred from production-type lines, the Speckledy is not likely to be prone to brooding.
A much better option is an Orpington.
