Update: I was going to get on here yesterday and post that I guess the markings really are arbitrary, because my older three-lined baby turned out to be a girl, but guess who I caught trying to crow this morning? You guessed it, my favorite "pullet". I guess it should have been obvious considering how big/red "her" comb/wattles were, but wishful thinking blinds a person. I posted photos later for verification.
I know 4 isn't exactly a huge sample size, but so far, both three-lined chicks have turned out to be cockerels, and the surviving ribbon chick is a pullet, so (barring a sexing error at the hatchery) the ribbon chick who passed away should have been a pullet as well.
