Hey, folks,

So we've been waiting, waiting for our first eggs. Near the end of March, we got a bunch of baby chicks: 5 Buff Orpingtons, three Rhode Island Reds, two Black Australorps, and four Araucanas, which have since been re-identified as Easter Eggers. Waited and waited. Finally, one of the Easter Eggers laid her first egg yesterday. Cool: it was "blue." On the other hand, it was tiny. I told myself "aw, the first egg is often small." Then today, she laid another... just as small. Is this our future?

Seriously, they're not very big! Don't be fooled by the camera angle, my darling bride has very small hands. Will the eggs from this hen get bigger over time? It would take a dozen of these to make a medium sized omelette!

Yes. They will get bigger. All of your birds should lay some decent size eggs. They just need a little more time to mature. Once that happens, egg size will follow. Good luck!
