I have a bourbon red, and have been watching her closely for about the last week. I am sure she laid her first egg early last week, (going by the look of her vent). I have spent countless hours searching for hidden eggs.(We let the birds free range on our wooded lot)

Today i managed to find her laying on a nest. She laid the egg and then did a wonderful job of covering it. I would have NEVER seen it if i hadn't seen her sitting on the nest.

so my question is, do they always lay in the same place (there were 2 eggs in the nest), or might there be other hiding places?

Also is it possible she could be stealing chicken eggs and hiding them. My daily count seems to be down over the last week.

thanks

I would only worry about her egg stealing if she is carring a basket! all poultry likes to lay to eggs, they would rather lay to a nest with an egg in it!!! if you find the nest and take eggs, she may find a new place, if you leave her to set, a coon will find her and that will be that! I would pen her up with the tom let her lay her clutch go to setting (broody) and then remove the tom let her hatch the eggs! she will also take over any eggs she can find! (meaning she will set on any nest with eggs) tom!!!!
