i was just telling my neighbour how id joined up to a fantastic poultry site for some help with my chickens, and he's asked me to ask about his turkey, Tom (how original!)
he's a big black turkey with brown in the tail and barred (black white) wings, supposedly a royal palm but ive only ever seen black and white ones, not black wih brown...anyhow, he was born last july so is 10 months? he's a big fella and quite often comes waddling over to ours for a walk.
right down to the question, his chest is bare, there are no feathers there and havent been since before christmas. he had feathers there when he was younger, but they dissappeared. anyhow his chest is huge and squishy, and swings from side to side when he walks, its not hard, more fluid like. his girls dont have anything like this.
John wants to know is this normal for male turkeys to have a 'swelling' like this? should he stick a needle in and try and get something out? this turkey is destined for xmas dinner this year but he doesnt want to continue feeding it if it has something wrong with it.....
i can get pictures if needed......
