I currently sell my large brown eggs for $2.00/ dozen. I am about to get some Blue Copper Marans chicks and wondering if people charge more for selling dark chocolate colored eggs... for consumption (I know hatching eggs are more!) Thanks for your feedback!

Well that would depend on the market in your area. Once mine start laying in the next couple of months I am going to charge more for them. For a few reasons, one being the demand for them will be higher than my other chicken eggs. I already have buyers lined up for them at $6.00 a doz. Keep in mind I live, very near, a heavily populated area. I also have a connection with some area chefs that want them for home use!

Another reason I will be charging more is my BCMarans won't lay as well as, say a RIR, they eat more feed for less egg production. I take very good care of my chooks, they are spoiled and I refuse to sell my superior product for an inferior price!

I agree, but then why are brown eggs always more expensive in the grocery store than white eggs?

The only reason I was wondering if people with Marans charge more is because of the fact that they are not high frequency layers, making their eggs less common to come by. People seem to like darker eggs... psychological, I guess.
