Do whitewing doves try again if eggs are lost?

We recently had a whitewing dove nest in a tree right above our porch. Not a good spot at all, since the fledgelings would be right in the spot where our cats spend most of their time, and one of our cats is too fast to keep indoors.
Something took the eggs yesterday, though. I checked from a balcony that offers a direct view of the nest. They were completely gone, with no broken shells or liquid anywhere, and the only sign of any trouble was a few tiny feathers from the mother scattered around. Any ideas on the culprit? I was thinking maybe a snake that scared the mother away and swallowed the eggs. Our cats couldn't climb up to the nest, so I assume a raccoon couldn't either, and I feel like a possum might have been more inclined to take and eat the mother than eat the eggs. We have rat snakes in the yard, they eat eggs, right?
Since the nest was in such a bad place, I took it down so she'd leave. Will she build another nest elsewhere and lay more eggs, or is she done with that for the year? She was on the 2 eggs for slightly under a week.
