Chickens in our fenced garden jump up for the kale stalks still growing. I think the chicken pruning encourages the kale to grow stronger and taller. It’s an entertaining event for my grand baby. Otherwise some days my chickens get cooked white or any kind of rice and oatmeal, Cheerios, cut ends of veggies, cranberries(they pop! when eaten) dried bread pieces, cantaloupe and watermelon plus seeds, but no fat and meat yet.
I used to put these in the coup, but after a rat began wreaking havoc by digging up the floor of the adjacent greenhouse, and the run (including the coup) I’ve stopped putting goodies in the run. That’s where I keep their organic feed...but I found scat in front of that so I’m not sure what to do now.
At least my Moran (named Morina)is still laying eggs! The other two: Ameri and Nori (guess their breed) not. Bon Chance!

I do. I usually feed leftover meat scraps, vegetable ends, egg shells, rice and dinner leftovers, and stuff like that. I have heard that is isn't good, and can dilute protein in the diet, but I feed a high protein feed and a good amount of the scraps have protein as well. I think it is much better to give it to them then throw it away. How about you?

Hi, I feed my chooks some scraps but most actually go into the worm farm and compost. However, when I find some veges at the green grocer that are a little past their best or those that are cheap (yesterday I got 5 ears of corn and 2 cauliflowers for $3!). I gradually put them in the yard over the period of a week or so and they are gone in the twinkling of an eye! I push the corn cobs into the coop fence so they will keep still while they are munched. My husband complains that the chooks eat like kings!
My five girls are healthy and happy. I don't feed them so many fresh veges that they don't eat their layer pellets so I generally get 4 - 5 delicious eggs daily. It's always such a pleasure to share info with other chook mothers

A refrigerated head of iceberg lettuce is a huge hit during high-summer with my girls. It's almost all water (about zero nutritional value), but they need entertaining ways to ingest more water this time of year. (It's coming into summertime here). Watermelon (rind, seeds and all) and melons are always a welcome treat too. I keep the treats well under 10% of their diet to ensure that they're getting plenty of their balanced feed.

Scraps like veggies and sometimes little tiny pieces of muffins and bread

I have leftover cooked bacon on occasion and when I show up with it, it's all hands on deck. They literally attack for it. They love melon also.

Leftover bacon? Are you ill?

OK, it's not just me...I was going to say "I know what all those words mean, but they don't make any sense to me when you put them together".

Also, bacon is on the salty side, so probably not the best thing to give chickens in any real quantity.

I cook for my chickens
They will get cream of oat from time to time to warm them up ... i feed green veggies all cut up and mixed ( cabbage, zucchini,sprouts,lettuce) well basically what I have on hand and more during winter as they free range ... when they molt, I give extra protein ( fish , scrambled eggs, up the black sunflower seed ect ) they are totally spoiled ....
As for reg table scraps well I will split as that’s the dogs treat they love apple sauce , small fruits ect ...
When the husband says smells good what we eating and I give him that look not for you hun for the chickens

I think it is OK to feed scraps as long as they aren't spoiled. Also, consider starting a meal worms farm, you can put non meat scraps in there and let the resulting Beetles breed more meal worms, which chickens love. I feed my meal worms to my silkies, quail, Old English game birds, turtles and koi.

Mine don't eat their eggs unless an egg is broken, then they eat the egg, shell and all
