Do you always cull a prolapse?

Sorry sommrluv - it sounds like you did the right thing by her

I usually give my girls one shot - I'll fix the prolapse once, but if it happens again, it's likely to keep happening and I choose to cull at that point. I'm sorry that you had to go through it, but I think you did the right thing.

Thank you! From what I read, if she's doing it this young, it would repeat itself.

It's so sad, though. I think she knew something was coming because I kept checking her out so often. At least I have 5 cute orpington chicks to distract me.

I am facing the same decision with my favorite hen, too.

Happened 2 days ago, I've reduced it several times, but it's a pretty significant one and reprolapses within minutes. She looks uncomfortable, and although I discussed a couple sutures to try to keep it reduced, I think it would be an ongoing problem.

It's probably best to just get it over with, but I am having a hard time getting myself to do it. Hopefully I have a friend who can help, and do the deed. Normally, I don't have a problem (but they're also usually meat birds or annoying roos. Not my favorite hen.)

Oh, I'm sorry! It's tough when it's your favorite. I have a favorite to, and I would just be heartbroken. Hopefully once it's "done" you'll feel better about her not suffering.

Deed is done. It was tough, but she was growing more miserable by the hour. It was hard, though.

The last 4 of her eggs went in a bator today. Maybe I'll get a daughter. Hope it isn't genetic...

Sad! It always seems like it's the favorite bird who you loose. I keep trying to tell myself not to pick favorites for that reason...
