I have a large run so I can't afford to cover it all but I've wondered about the benefits of enclosing part of it for the winter. I was thinking it would give them a snow free place to play outside, and maybe keep the coop warmer. Greenhouse like? Any thoughts?

Yes, a lot of people do something like this. Chickens generally don't like to walk on snow, so this gives them a way to get outside, which of course makes life much more pleasant for them.

I wish I could cover my run!!
Part of it is under the coop....I call it the 'Under Run'.

I do have an awning over the pop door and ramp.....and a glass foyer that blocks the west wind from the pop door.

Keeping part of it shoveled out last year was a bear, had to tho just to keep access into the run and the outside of the pop door plus a bit extra. Finally started putting a thin layer of straw down so they would walk out onto the snow and get a little more leg room to avert Cabin(Coopin?) Fever.
