Do you do Eggtopsys?

I give eggs 3 days from due date or 3 days from last hatched chick which ever is longer.
I then either candle or float test to double check that none are alive.
THEN I eggtopsy....

I always suggest making dang sure they are dead before cracking... the first live one you crack open will break your heart.

I had one who was 4 days late, I didnt bother doing the float test because I assumed it was dead. It wasnt, poor little guy

I have yet to have one "explode" on me but I do all my eggtopsy outside over the yard waste bin so that in case it pops its not inside and stinking my house up.

I was smart, I had my husband check.

He was not so smart, he listened.

I called him 'smelly egg face' for weeks.

I do Eggtopsys too. As I dont candle misplaced the candler. I find most that didn't hatch weren't fertile. Some seem to died at lock down, some just not strong enough too get out.

I find it quite interesting.

i did it tonight for the 1st time ever. i candled my 3 sets of eggs today, day 9, 10, and 11. 2 of them i was unsure, so i left them in the bator for later. but 7 of them i cracked open and there was no growth at all....so must've been infertile. i have the guts to do it now.....but i couldn't do it if they got any bigger. i won't do it for the one's that don't hatch. but i look up to those that can. i'm just a chicken....just like my pets....lol.

I had 6 that were due on the 21st ... that haven't hatched.

I just cracked one open and there was a chick that still had alot of yolk with her... and she was kicking and opening & closing her beak.

Aww! how sad! i think i'm gonna keep all my eggs in the bator till day 28 or something....that breaks my heart and i'm so sorry for you!

Hi! That's hard to see, sorry. Did you notice your temperature was low or power-out or anything that would have contributed to the embryos being so far behind?
I had chicks here due the 21st and they didn't hatch til 23rd, but my incubator got unplugged for 3 nights in a row (accident) when they were mid-way in development. A great many of mine perished from the 'cool-down' 3 nights, but surprisingly, I had a few tough chicks pop out. I checked the rest of mine and the possibles had passed by Day 23.

so sorry!
Thats why I candle, float test and everything before I crack open... I want to make sure that does not happen to me again

Maybe some of the other 5 are good and will hatch but just way behind?
low temp will delay them quiet a bit sometimes.

I'm one of them whatever you said. I started out setting 40 eggs and getting 10 or 15. I Cracked eggs read, looked at pictures of what it looked like. Got a good Incubator. A year later I get a good 60 to 80 %. My Golden Rule is "stay out of the Bator". Humidity and temp is always an issue. Every time the door is open is an issue.
