Do you do Eggtopsys?

I too check un-hatched eggs, & with doing so I saved a few chicks that are 100% fine. If it has bin some time past hatch date or if most of the hatch is out, I will start to check the other eggs. I dont just crack them open, I hold them in my hand with a warm wet wash rags & with the other hand I use the back end of a pair of twezzers, the solid side. I tap & tap one the end were the air pocket is & were they should pip at. Tapping hard until I crack the shell if there is blood & a live chick I put it back & give it more time, I have found them shrink wraped & dead to. My last batch I did. I siad to myself I am not touching any eggs, Day 20 pip started, 6 out of 9 I waited & waited on day 21 4 were out 2 were pip & the other 3 nothing.. on the 15 hour mark of when the 2 pip had went by. I helped them & check the other 3 & they were dead - shrinked wraped. The 2 that pip & I helped over 3 ot 4 hours They are 100% fine. But I wish I would of help sooner

these were silkies. The incubator was steady no spike or drops & i never had to open it - I am able to add water with out opening the door & I only had to add alittle bit to keep it at 70 when they started to hatch????

You got over 1/2 that's good. I raise OEGB's and I have found, and oldtimers have told me Bantums don't hatch as well as Standards. Egg shell is thinner, easier for moisture and bacteria to get in . Also I don't wash my hands with anythink except clean water. To many chemicals in soap and things. Sure if you got axle grease wash and rinse and rinse and rinse,. You get the idea LOL

Lets just say I have a new understanding of the saying "egg on your face" an on the floor an celing an walls an table an stove an......

Besides, after you hatch as many as I have it really stops helping so its not worth the
sickbyc.gif
factor.

I disect eggs and everything else that dies which includes lizards. It helps you to learn from your mistakes or just realize that there was nothing you could do. It is also a great learning experince.

Also I think an autopsy is a word refered to humans. Theres another for animals which i can not recall at the time.

I'm in total agreement of this one! I did it for maybe the first year.....now, I don't bother. I candle at day 4-5, again a week later, once more at lockdown. I can usually figure out from there when they quit. I don't need to see it any more....I've seen it enough.

I suppose when I finally get my Bev Davis eggs I might have to check every one. I have a lot of hopes invested in those eggs! lol
