Do you ever feel like calling it a day? *Just caught a dog*

Love the silkie, the pen looks pretty good to me!

The pen was secure, apart from the piece of lattice we were using as a gate!

I love your set-up, is the front completely hardware cloth? We made a very open air design to our coop because it gets so hot here, and the winters are very mild.

It's actually chicken wire where it's open. I had a friend who had an old role of it in my shed for the last ten years and who knows how long he's had it before that, you know how old farmers are!!! ;) so it's the good old heavy stuff!

Hi, thought I would check in and see how things are going? I got my run built for the kids this weekend and reworked the older girls pen also, found out that I have quite a bit of work to do yet my wife called this am to tell me the big girls were out roaming the pasture! As homer says " D'oh!!!"

As far as coons go, invest in a Duke dog proof trap. bait it with marshmallow and relocate the devil.(videos on you tube on how to set and bait them). I hang old c.d.'s on fishing line about 10 ft over my run so they will spin, Hawks don't seem to like the reflection moving on the ground. I use them in my berry patch to keep the birds away too. My neighbor puts the small blinking colored Christmas lights around the bottom of his coop, I have never tried it but he swears by it. Good luck.

Everyone is doing good! I moved some chicks out of the house today, a bit early but the outdoor temps are getting in the 80's. I have a stomach virus and the smell was driving me crazy. Haven't seen the dogs for a while, which has been nice. Property fence is about 50% complete.

We weren't sure if the 7 we lost in January was to a fox or a raccoon. The fault was completely with us, forgot to shut the coop door that night. Three chickens were headless, 4 completely missing but there were pluck piles scattered all over the property. Otherwise, all I usually see on the property is armadillos.
I've been putting silver pinwheels on the tops of the posts around the run, but I will give CD's a try too. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Sorry to hear about the stomach bug, I had it a couple of weeks ago. Hope the fence goes up fast cause I know how much work is involved! We use to try and replace a mile a year but thank goodness Dad decided to take a break this year! :)

Talked to the Amish man who lives down the road, his wife boils Cayenne pepper, onion, and jalapeno peppers in water. She lets it cool, strains it and puts it in a spray bottle, she sprays around the coop every day or so. Say's it works good.
