Do you expect extras?

Hi! If 12 eggs are advertised, I expect to receive 12 intact and fertile eggs.
If packaging is such that shipper thinks there will be a damaged egg or 3, OR if the eggs are so fragile that regardless of wonderful packaging some are expected to be damaged --- there should be extras.
Poor fertility is another circumstance where a seller should always send extras when only 12 are advertized (example: bought 18 eggs / received 26 / 12 were not fertile at crack-out on Day 6).
If 12+ eggs are advertized, I expect at least 13 intact and fertile eggs. Nothing more.

edit: I couldn't decide how to spell adverti...
whatever.
another edit:
Oh, if I plan to ship 12 eggs, I adverti-whatever 12 eggs, because that is what I have available. I could call it 10+ for the same price, but that would be kind of silly.
Another question I would ask is would you rather buy 12 eggs and get 12 hatchable eggs or buy 9+ for the same price and get 3 extra eggs?

If I say 12+ eggs, it is because I have 13 or more ready to ship.

How sad. My UPS guy insists on carrying the heavier (as in 20 lbs. of dog food) packages up the stairs, and then asks if I want him to set them inside the door on the washing machine, which he remembers is just inside the back door. He won't come in until I agree, and asks each time. If an alternate happens to come, they have always been very polite. Never in 40 years had a problem with UPS. I don't doubt that this junk happens, but it certainly isn't the norm, in my experience. Sorry you got the jerk.

I suspect lots of folks feel that extras are almost common courtesy. If I were to sell hatching eggs, I would mention them in my ad. Extras if available, usually send extras, extra goose eggs not usually available -- whatever applies. You could even discuss it with each buyer -- but I would still put something in my ad about it.

I ordered 6 eggs for a broody and she sent 10, which arrived in perfect looking condition. Very thoughtful of her -- but this hen isn't really big enough to sit on 10 eggs, so I would be amazed if they all hatched. She did mention extras, and I didn't discuss it with her, because 7 or 8 would have probably been OK, and I didn't expect this many. (No bator here.)

Personally, I would not expect extras if they were not mentioned. But as I said, I suspect many do.

I don't expect them, but both times I've bought eggs I've got them and it's such a warm fuzzy when you open that carton to find them. Because in your mind when you order 12 eggs, you're thinking that your going to get 12 chicks. Reality rules and it's not the norm so when you get a couple of extra eggs, you're a step closer to getting that higher number of hatchrate.

When I start shipping eggs, I plan to pay it forward.

If there are extras you're not ready for, a quick note on freecycle or craigslist will have them rehomed within a few hours I'd think.
