do you hate onions?

I'm a total onion lover but I did here that this :
Did you know if you plug your nose and take a bite out of an Apple and a bite out of an Onion they taste exactly the same? Its the smell that makes them taste different. My brother tried it and its totally true.

Is very true. A friend of mine did it and said he could NOTtell the difference. I didn't buy it either. Can't seem to bring myself to try it but maybe someday. I'm not a fan of whole onion but sliced and fried or even sliced and raw...MMMMM GOOD!

We do that with elephant garlic. Olive oil on top.

I do that with real garlic.

I did it once with elephant garlic and, well...you don't wanna know. But my farts smelled like garlic for two days.

Some foodie on another forum pointed out to me that elephant garlic is not really even garlic, it's in the leek family.

It sure tastes like garlic, spread on some bread with a little salt. YUM!

Maybe I should give elephant garlic another chance.

Maybe you're just not supposed to eat two entire bulbs of it, plust two bulbs of "real" garlic.

Okay, debiraymond, I'ma give elephant garlic the second chance that onions don't deserve.

Raw onions are pure evil. Nasty things that hide in perfectly good food then announce their unwanted presence the moment you bite down on them They ruin both the taste and texture of every food they touch.

Cooked onions, on the other hand... I mean really well cooked, soft onions, are a completely different thing. Then, they are transformed into something so good as to make the angels weep for the lack of them in heaven. Here is what made me love a well cooked onion. (I would not want even a cooked one until convinced to just try this.) Take a sweet onion (Vidalias are best) and either bake it until translucent and tender, or use a covered dish and nuke it for 3, 3 minute cycles. Again, until completely soft. No icky crunch allowed! Then take the thing and put butter, sour cream and salt on it. It is so sweet it is like a dessert!

Y'know, the only thing I could comprehend from this whole quote is that there are no onions in heaven. As Martha Stewart would say, "that's a good thing."

I so hope you are right. They are much better roasted with a little honey and toasted walnuts.

Imp- And BTW Walla Wallas are much better than Vidalias.

I don't like onions!
But, I do like the flavor they put in food, I just can't stand biting into one of them.

Another weird thing...I like onion rings...but not any other kind of cooked onions. I will pick them off or out of everything.
