Do you have a hen that hates your roo?

I'm waiting for Ivy to turn around and beat the snot outta Impy one of these days. Would serve him right.

It took one of my RIRs forever to get to like my rooster Bill. He loves mating with the girls but he's very much a gentleman. He protects them, gives them treats, etc. Then one day after I gave everyone a treat, my RIR ran right over to my rooster and squatted and he hopped on and mated! They've been inseparable since! My other RIR won't let him do anything with her but she isn't laying yet so that could be part of it. Maybe your young one will warm up to him eventually. Once she sees how great he is

Impy is shaping up to be a fine roo. I love the way he refuses to go into the coop at night until every single pullet is inside. He even chases them into the coop when they linger outside too long.

I'm hoping Ivy will warm up to him, but she's a pretty independent girl.

I had a rooster that hated two of the hens of the flock.(the two were tail-less,the two very high in peaking order). He had very strange temperament, he treated some hens bad, and others very good. He had to go.

At least your hens only threaten to beat up your rooster! my hen finally had enough of my rooster and chased him around the pen pecking out his tail feathers! I'm ashamed to say i laughed.

wood&feathers :

I agree with the poster who said Ivy is being coy. I have one Partridge Marans who seems to delight in the chase, leading the roo in a huge circle around the whole house before squatting. She didn't even used to squat for him, but since raising a baby she has moved up the peck order to #2.

Digger, the hen in question, seems to enjoy sprinting. Sometimes she just goes tearing off across the yard, only to stop suddenly like nothing happened. Other times she stretches and flaps after a run to show off her superiority.

Just curious...is she a Polish? Mine haven't started laying but that's how they act all the time w/o a rooster.
ETA: Sorry I see where she is a Marans.. didn't mcatch that the first time. Must be old age slipping up.

I'm not ashamed to admit that today when watching both flocks mingle together and Impy trying to woo Thor's women, DH and I placed bets on how long it would take Thor to decide to kick Impy's butt.

About 5 minutes.
