Do you have any advice for a Peafowl newbie?

Before I go any further, no we do not have any Peafowl yet. We are thinking about getting some from a person who lives near us. Currently our poultry flock consists of only chickens and guineas. We hope to add some ducks in a couple years.

So before we go buying any Peafowl I want to get some good advice/info on Peafowl from you all. I know a couple basic things about them, but overall I don't know much. I'd really like to know how they do in a flock with chickens and guineas and if they can share the same coop/run. Also another big question I have is, do they really range far from home?

Any advice/info would be extremely helpful

WOW. Well, I have done SO MUCH reading over the past month.
I JUST adopted a pair of India Blues YESTERDAY. Our first peafowl.
We have ducks, chickens, goats, rabbits....soon to be quail and guinea.

As for the peas. I LOVE THEM already.(ours are 1 yr old) As for free range.(unless they are chicks) NOT a good idea RIGHT AWAY. they will fly away, almost certain. They need a large covered, area (coop/run) and once they know HOME is home you can let them free range.

Congrats on your first peafowl! I've been looking at pictures of them and all the different colors are just gorgeous. (as a note on the guineas, you'll love them!)

Yes, we plan on either buying peachicks or buying pea eggs. (Mom and I are very skeptical about bringing adults or even chicks from non-hatchery farms into our farm.) We'd rather hatch our own peachicks but it depends how much the hatching eggs would be versus the chicks, and I hear pea eggs are semi-difficult to hatch?

Yes we have a large run with a roof, and we would be free-ranging them.

If you got the "egg route" , pea eggs don't ship well. A 50% hatch is about average. You said you have a local source so that will help alot! Once you figure out what settings in your incubator work for pea eggs they are easy to hatch.
